History

Saaremaa is the biggest island of the Western Estonian archipelago. Because of its marine location Saaremaa enjoys a well-developed resort tradition. Therapeutic mud can be found in the bays and seaside lakes; the most unique mud used in Kuressaare resort comes from Mullutu Bay close to Kuressaare.

Picturesque and architecturally valuable town of Kuressaare has more than 170 years history as a resort city. Already in 1883 Kuressaare had 3 mud resorts hosting 2500 patients in 96 bathrooms. Resort?s high period was in 1924-1939 when Kuressaare was known everywhere in Europe and even in Australia.

Presently the Spa-Hotel Saaremaa Valss ( renovated in 1997 ), Guesthouse Merineitsi ( 2001 ), Spa-Hotel Meri ( 2000 ) and Spa-Hotel Rüütli ( 2002 ) offer various modern therapy and accommodation possibilities. Next to traditional services the centres provide several leisure and sporting facilities.
