The Saaremaa Spa Hotels – Saaremaa Valss, Meri and Rüütli – are located in the town of Kuressaare, which itself is in Saare County. The quiet, leafy town with its much-admired architecture has a history as a resort of over 170 years.

Even by 1883 there were three mud therapy facilities open in Kuressaare and, in the summer season, they treated 2 500 patients in their 96 bathing rooms. During the resort’s heyday, between the years 1924 to 1939, the resort of Kuressaare was well known all over Western Europe and even as far afield as Australia.

The therapy wing of Saaremaa Valss, one of the Saaremaa Spa Hotels open today, was built in 1978. The hotel was added to this in 1984, initially as a boarding house. In 1997 the hotel was thoroughly renovated to give the spa hotel a new contemporary look.

Europe was discovering the magical island; there was an increase in interest and demand. With the opening of Saaremaa Spa Hotel Meri in 2000 and the Merineitsi guesthouse in 2001, the choice of accommodation and treatment for guests grew signifi cantly. Spa Hotel Rüütli, opened in 2002, is a completely new type of facility: in addition to accommodation and treatment services it also includes a water park with its many attractions, pools and saunas. This way, we can fulfi l all kinds of diff erent expectations concerning a relaxing holiday.
